Stephen DeAcutis has been working professionally as a mixer, producer, engineer, writer, and performer since the early 1980’s, having honed his skills and training under such studio heavyweights as Andy Wallace (Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana), Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith), and Max Norman (Ozzy Osbourne) amassing credits that include such acts as Vanilla Fudge, Gladys Knight, Travers and Appice, Corey Glover, and Cyndi Lauper, to name a few.
He has been contracted by Sony, Interscope, LaFace, Miramax, Columbia, MTV, The Speed Channel, ESPN, Discovery, and numerous others. From hard hitting rock and pop to death metal and country, you'll find few more experienced and musically intuitive than Stephen DeAcutis. |
The achievements of mixing and production specialist Stephen DeAcutis have spanned decades, taken on several roles, and manifested into a diverse number musical genres. But the common thread throughout these accomplishments has been the artist-friendly attention to detail and dedication of the man collaborators affectionately call “Stevie D.”
As the founder and operator of Sound Spa Productions, Stephen has applied his craft as a mixer, producer, engineer, composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist to help guide and realize the visions of some of the industry’s most elite artists and musicians.
He has always told his clients that his goal as a mixer/producer is to take the vision of the artist and bring it to its highest musical and emotional levels – to serve the integrity of that vision and not impose his own. “It is my purpose in this lifetime,” says Stephen, “I love the work, and it doesn’t feel at all like work.”
While it may not “feel” like work to him, that doesn’t change the fact that Stephen has worked hard for more than three decades lending his expertise to a countless number of ambitious projects – and in the meantime building a tremendous skill set, not to mention a collection of gear that rivals that of any studio on the planet.

My experience working with Steve DeAcutis has been awesome!! He mixed Vanilla Fudge “Spirit of 67”, 2 new songs on Pat Travers - Carmine Appice “The Balls” CD. He mixed Vanilla Fudge's new version of “You Keep Me hanging On”...and Vanilla Fudge Live at Sweden Rock festival 50th anniversary CD/DVD out in 2017. On all these projects, Steve was professional, easy to work with and most of all the mixes came out great...he has the gift of great ears and the know how to mix frequencies together to keep it ballsy with great fidelity...I use Steve whenever it calls for a great mix !! He’s one of the best and I worked with many of the best...
-Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge, Rod Stewart, Paul Stanley)
Sound Spa Studios is NJ's best kept recording secret. Ive been making records for over 30 years and have worked in some of the finest studios in the world. I put Sound Spa up against any of them. First of all it is run by Stevie DeAcutis whose experience of “making records” is incomparable to most. His knowledge of microphones and gear surpasses most engineers I’ve met. He knows what gear to use to get the results needed in this competitive market. The studio is centered around a legendary Neve console with automation which is only found in high-end recording facilities. The discerning outboard gear consists of new and vintage tube equipment home in only the most elite studios. Lastly the selection of monitors is outstanding in order to insure the consistency of the mixes on all systems. The fact that Stevie is also an accomplished guitar player and songwriter only adds to the benefit of the client. I usually engineer my own projects but I enlisted Stevie to engineer since he knew the gear and room much better than I. He did an outstanding job and it was nice to concentrate on the music and not have to worry about the engineering end. So if you’re looking for a great studio to record look no further. With such incredible gear, recording experience and reasonable rates there's no need to go anywhere else.

If you are looking for world class sound, production, mixing, (and great guitar playing) I would recommend Stephen DeAcutis at Sound Spa!! There is an amazing control room full of delicious top of the line analog gear and Stevie knows what to do with it! I’m working on my record with Steve and it’s been a joy! He has decades of experience and can cover any sort of music! Plus, a great guy!

Stevie D has the “best ears” in the business!!!!
-Tony Camillo (Gladys Knight, Grand Funk, Dionne Warwick)
Not only is Stevie D the nicest guy in NJ, but if you care about your music and you want your artistic vision to sound as good as it possibly can, you owe it to yourself and to your music: Mix your next record with Stevie D for cryin’ out loud.
-Bruce Buchanan, Producer (Matt O’Ree Band, Tyketto, Atlantic Records)
My experience recording at SOUNDSPA was literally life changing. After the very first day I set foot in the control room and was surrounded by the vast array of analog gear and classic hardware I knew I was in heaven. The setup always makes me feel so cozy and is perfect for those looking to getaway from the noise of the city and simply create. My band thought it had it all figured out before we went in to record but soon after we were hit with such an inspiring air of creativity that oozed from the walls, it was like nothing we had experienced before and just enhanced our final product. Huge sound, warm vibes classic tones and the expertise of Stevie D... what more can you ask for?
-Chris Heirro (Taxi Amarillo, Alejandro Sanz, Toby Love)
Stevie D is first of all a world class musician. His love and passion for music and engineering is a winning combination. When he mixes your song he will treat it like his own. He'll capture your vision and more. Stevie D has it all!
